January 27th (1:30 a.m.): The 2007 College Bowl Pool is over! It
was a great competition... we had several excellent bowl games, although not
very many upsets this year, and it was a very close race all the way to the end.
I have posted the final results for the pool in the Standings

Granny for doing very well and winning the Grand Prize of
$1500! Honorable mention goes to tnstud,

Rules
Pool Format
The 2007 College Bowl Pool is an exciting
competition for the 2007/2008 college football bowl season.
The Bowl Pool is one of our most popular, and after having 185
players in '06, we aim for 200 this year!
Using a confidence-style format, you pick the winner of all 32
bowl games (we are using all 32 this year).
You pick your 30 winners straight up (no point spreads)
and then rank them from best pick to worst.
Correct predictions earn you points, and the top players
after the BCS Championship will win cash prizes!
Joining, Fees & Deadlines
We start with the Poinsettia Bowl (12/20/07) and
end with the BCS Championship Game (1/07/08).
This is the first year where we will be using all of the bowl games
on the schedule, so it should be fun!
The entry fee is $20 per entry, and you may enter
as many times as you like, so increase your odds!
The deadline to join, pay, and submit your picks is
one hour
prior to the kickoff of the Poinsettia Bowl.
The Poinsettia Bowl kicks off on Thursday, 12/20,
at 8:00 p.m. Central, so the deadline is at
7:00.
This year we are doing things a little differently with the deadline,
so read the following carefully:
1)
You MUST sign-up to play and submit your picks
before December 20th at 7:00 p.m. Central.
2) Your entry fee MUST be
postmarked by Thursday, December 20th, to be eligible for the Bowl Pool.
3) You need to send a check or money order for your entry fee;
PayPal can no longer be used. (I
have limited access to PayPal, but I will only use it for players outside of the
U.S. to make it easier for
them, or if you are a long-time player that really needs to use PayPal,
email me and we will discuss
it.)
4) Again, your entry fee must be postmarked by December 20th, but I
will only wait 8 days beyond the
deadline for your entry fee to arrive. If it does not arrive by
Friday, December 28th, your entry will be
disqualified. Once I receive your fee, your
entry will be ACTIVATED and eligible to win prize money. If
you look in the Standings and see an ^ by
your name, it means your entry fee hasn't arrived yet. Once
the ^ is removed from your entry name, then your entry fee has arrived
and your entry is ACTIVATED.
If you enter and pay on time, but fail to submit your picks on
time, your entry fee will not be refunded!
It is YOUR responsibility to make your picks before
the December 20th deadline,
but a reminder to make
your picks will be emailed out one week before the deadline, and again, 24
hours before the deadline.
After reading the rest of the Rules, go to the Join
area to purchase your entries for the Bowl Pool!
How to Play
The bowl schedule was announced on December 2nd, so
the pick sheet is now posted in the Picks
area.
Again, the Bowl Pool includes all of the bowl games this
year, so be sure to get your picks in on time!
When you are ready, you can submit your picks via the
website, by email,
or by phone (801-790-4236).
Remember, you only have until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday,
December 20th
to submit your pick sheet!
To submit your picks through the
website, follow these instructions:
After the pool is announced on Monday, December 10th, you only
have 10 days to submit your picks!
To begin, navigate to the pick sheet and
enter your name, your entry name, and your email address.
When entering your entry name, please be sure to use the EXACT name you
chose when signing up!
Then, predict who you think will win each of the 32
bowl games, straight up (with no point spreads).
You will then rank your winners from 32 to 1,
based on the level of confidence you have in your choices.
For example, the pick you have the most confidence in
would be ranked 32, your second best pick would
be ranked 31, followed by 30, and so on, until
you reach 1, the pick you have the least
confidence in.
Only use each confidence ranking one time. When
finished, your rankings should add up to 528 points.
Finally, for your tiebreaker, predict how many total
points will be scored in the BCS Championship Game.
Important:
Before submitting your picks, be sure to 'CHECK' the box that says "Email Me a
Copy".
Last but not least, to send your picks in, click the Submit Picks button
located at the bottom of the page!
After you submit your picks, an email will be sent to
you, displaying your Bowl Pool picks (assuming you
chose the option on your pick sheet). If you did not check the box, email me for
your picks confirmation.
It is YOUR responsibility to ensure that your picks are in the
system, exactly the way you want them.
If you see a problem or you do not receive the picks
confirmation, BE SURE to let me know via
email.
You ARE allowed to change or re-submit your picks as many
times as you like before the deadline.
Scoring
& Winning
All of the player pick sheets will be posted in the
Standings
a few minutes before the first bowl begins.
(This is a one-man operation, so please be
patient if the Standings are not updated immediately before
the first bowl begins; it may take me a couple of hours
after the first game kicks off to get them posted.)
After each bowl game is played, the Standings
will be updated with the current and projected standings.
The confidence scoring system we use requires a lot of skill
and a little luck, but it is really quite simple:
If
a team that you predicted to win LOSES, you receive 0 points,
regardless of how you ranked the team.
If that team WINS, however, you receive points equal to the
confidence ranking you chose for that team.
For example, let's say you pick Tennessee to defeat
Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl, and you feel quite
confident, so you rank Tennessee 29. If Tennessee
loses, you were wrong, so you receive 0
points. But
if Tennessee wins the game, you were correct, so with a
confidence ranking of 29, you receive 29 points!
Once
the final bowl game is over, the points are tabulated, and the Top 12
players will win a cash prize!
The pool player that finishes in Last Place will receive a free
entry into the 2008 March Madness Pool.
To see the prize breakdown, go to the Prizes
area. The cash prize amounts are estimates based on the
pool having 150 players and $3,000 in entry fees. If we
receive more than 200 entries, we may award
more cash prizes (for example, to the Top 15 players). Once
the pool has started, I will post the official
prize amounts. To see the prize amounts with the current
number of players, go to the News & Info.
Cash prize winners will receive their winnings within a
maximum of 30 days from the end of the pool.
I
pay the winners with a check or money order, but on request,
I may be able to pay a prize
using PayPal.
Tiebreakers
In the event of a tie after all of the bowl games have
ended, the following tiebreakers will be used:
1. Player with the
highest pick
percentage for the 32 bowl games.
2. Player with the
closest
Total Points tiebreaker prediction for the BCS Championship
Game.
3. Player that correctly picks
the winner of the BCS Championship Game.
If the standings are still tied after the three tiebreakers
are enforced, then any prize money that needs to
be awarded will be evenly split among the tied players.
Other Rules
You must provide a full name and email address in
order to join the pool. Do not worry though, as these
will never be displayed on the site. Only your anonymous
entry nickname will appear in the standings.
Barker's Pools will NEVER sell or distribute the
contact information of our members to a third-party.
I do send occasional emails regarding our upcoming
pools. To stop receiving these, just let
me know.
I reserve the right to make changes to the Rules midway
through the competition in order to maintain
the integrity and fairness of the pool. Any changes will
be discussed with all of the players beforehand.
Finally, and most importantly, have lots of fun and enjoy the
bowl games! Good luck and Happy Holidays!
By joining this pool, you are stating that you have read and
understand the Rules entirely.
If you have any questions or comments, do not hesitate to
contact me at barker@barkerspools.com.

Prizes
In
1998, the very first College Bowl Pool was played at Barker's
Pools, and one cash
prize was awarded to our top player. This year, we held
the 10th annual Bowl Pool,
and we handed out 12 cash prizes to our top
players. Below, you will find a chart
displaying the prize breakdown, along with a list of all of
our cash prize winners.
The prize pool was divided up & awarded as follows:
With
195 players and $3,900 in entry fees, the following cash prizes were awarded:
The 1st Place player received a
$1,500
cash prize.
The 2nd Place player received a $500
cash prize.
The 3rd Place player received a $400
cash prize.
The 4th Place player received a $300
cash prize.
The 5th Place player received a $200
cash prize.
The 6th Place player received a $140
cash prize.
The 7th Place player received a $100
cash prize.
The 8th Place
player received a $75
cash prize.
The 9th through 12th Place players received
$50 cash prizes.
The Last Place player received a free entry into the
2008
March Madness Pool.
The remaining 15% of the prize pool was used to support and expand this website.
Unfortunately, running this site takes time and money,
so a small portion of each pool's entry fees
will be used to offset my expenses. This portion will be
between 10%-20% of the collected entry
fees, depending on the pool. The administrative costs
include: domain registration, hosting fees,
PayPal &
banking fees, pool software, web design software, and other
miscellaneous expenses.
